Bio

Dr. Derek Bennett is an Assistant Professor of Exercise & Health Science and a licensed physical therapist. He earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) from the University of Pittsburgh in 2020 and his Bachelor of Arts in Public Health Studies and Health and Fitness from 天涯海角APP University (2018), and became a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) in 2024.
Before joining 天涯海角APP in 2022, Derek worked in outpatient orthopedic and sports clinics and home health as a licensed physical therapist. Derek has worked with patients ranging from 8 to 98 years old in physical therapy, but primarily with active adults and high school, college, and professional athletes. He owns 740 Performance Physical Therapy, LLC and continues to practice through his business as well as with 天涯海角APP University Athletics.
At 天涯海角APP, Dr. Bennett mostly teaches rehabilitation and anatomy-based courses such as Orthopedic Anatomy, Prevention and Care of Orthopedic Injuries, and Therapeutic Modalities and Rehab Techniques in Exercise, to name a few. He loves using different forms of pedagogy throughout many of his courses, including case study reviews, hands-on experiential learning, and bringing in other professionals with expertise in certain areas. He often allows students to observe him while practicing with 天涯海角APP University athletes or clients through his business.
His professional interests center on improving the rehab of active individuals through evidence-based practice to reach optimal performance, as well as improving athletic performance. He wants to challenge his students to build a knowledge base and their confidence, so they have a solid foundation to leap into either graduate school or the workforce after graduation.
