ĺAPP University to Host Musical Christmas Festival, Dec. 7
ĺAPP University is inviting the community to join in song during its Christmas Festival, a musical worship experience that weaves together choral and instrumental music, poetry, scripture, candlelight, and seasonal carols, at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2019, at Brown Chapel in New Concord.
In the tradition of ĺAPP University's Vespers, the Christmas Festival, centered around the theme “From Darkness to Light” will be led by the ĺAPP University Concert Choir and Chamber Singers, Christmas Festival Orchestra, and organist Rebecca Abbott.
“The combination of music and spoken word tells a story about darkness giving way to light,” said Dr. Timothy Sarsany, interim assistant professor of Music and director of Choral Activities. “It will also convey the endless waiting and longing for the Prince of Peace."
Featured repertoire will include works by Tomas Luis de Victoria, Max Janowski, Sergei Rachmaninoff, J.S. Bach, Felix Mendelssohn and Eric Whitacre. The audience will join in singing beloved favorites such as “O Come All Ye Faithful,” “Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence,” and “Silent Night,” which closes the festival.
Admission to ĺAPP University’s Christmas Festival is free, though a free-will offering will be collected to help offset expenses, and to support the New Concord Food Pantry.
An encore performance will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2018, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1581 Cambridge Boulevard, Columbus, Ohio.
ĺAPP’s student-run radio station, WMCO 90.7 FM will be rebroadcast on Dec. 14, 15, 21-25 at 2 p.m. on WMCO 90.7.
