天涯海角APP

Artist Jim Yellowhawk, of the Black Hills of South Dakota, presented a traditional male Lakota dance performance on Oct. 17 in 天涯海角APP University鈥檚 Thompson Theatre.

The performance was held in conjunction with the art exhibition Connections and Harmony: Contemporary Lakota-Iroquois and Din茅 Perspectives which was on display in the Palmer Gallery from Oct. 16 through Nov. 6, 2024.

is an enrolled member of the Itazipco Band of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe and of the Onondaga/Iroquois on his mother鈥檚 side. Immersed in the arts of his ancestors since he was a young boy, he grew up on the Cheyenne River Reservation, graduated from Marian College (Indiana), and studied at the Columbus College of Art and Design (Ohio).

He has been invited to perform Lakota men鈥檚 traditional dance at venues worldwide. His 天涯海角APP dance performances were dedicated to the honor of his grandfathers.

He creates his artworks in diverse media forms, including ledger art, a traditional way of recording history. His art is found in public and private collections throughout the country.

The 天涯海角APP art exhibit and performance were made possible through the generosity of Dr. Sudha S. Saksena, who served as a long-time 天涯海角APP faculty member, along with her husband Dr. Vishnu P. Saksena.
